EXHIBITION: The Skin of Discomfort

Seven monumental textile patchworks exploring feminism, environmental justice, mental health, and human rights through the lens of collective struggle.
Featuring large-scale textile patchworks by artist Paola Podestá of Valparaíso, Chile, The Skin of Discomfort uses quilt-making as both an aesthetic medium and a powerful metaphor. Addressing critical contemporary issues—including feminism, fracking, natural resource depletion, immigration, and mental health—Podestá demonstrates how individual fabric scraps unite into a singular work, reinforcing that our societal struggles are interconnected.
Conveying a communal alignment with core objectives of the Organization of American States (OAS)—human rights, sustainability, and social justice—this installation invites reflection on building a more equitable future together. On view concurrently with Dee Levinson’s Veiled Ladies.
