The Women’s Market at Dupont Underground is an intersectional marketplace highlighting artists and femme-run and owned businesses in the DMV.
In this age, we increasingly value intentional representation and the language that recognizes and creates space for the totality of each person. We choose the word “femme” as a capacious expression of femme empowerment.
Despite being destined to the home, women have been rather at the forefront of movements for civil and human rights and the backbone of raising social consciousness while carrying very heavy literal and metaphorical loads.
Just in the U.S., 40% of businesses are femme owned. In 2019, femmes started 1,821 net new businesses every day. Women of color take the lioness share—starting 64% of new femme-owned businesses. Overall, femme-owned businesses generate about $1.8 trillion per year in the U.S. Clearly, we have never lacked the power or the drive.
Come celebrate femmehood, womanhood, sisterhood, artists, and small business with us!
