Dupont Underground Announces ‘Look Hear Gallery’ – an exhibition of images from Washington, DC based Black photographers Shedrick Pelt & Richard Williams.
The works show the beauty and intimacies of Black culture in Chocolate City while touching on how the city is countering the effects of gentrification. The exhibition aims to support the community through a mutual aid presence, local vendors and will showcase the works of other native District photographers.
Shedrick hails from the Deep South in Alabama and although he is not from DC, he’s made it a point over the past 5 years of living in the District, to connect his work with the spirit that makes the city uniquely defined space for Black artists. Through his journalism, he tells the story of community fighting to hold onto their traditions.
Richard was born in Washington, DC, and raised in Prince George's County, MD. He has been able to leverage what it means to exist between the two, capturing the intimacy of the black family in suburban, rural landscapes, while capturing the everyday experiences of members of the District in celebration and resiliency.
