2024 opens with LAS MÍSTICAS DE MÉXICO, an immersive music and art installation experience that surrounds the audience in a multi-sensory journey through the mystical creative expressions of four centuries of Mexican women artists. The works of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, María Grever, Toña la Negra, Gloria Anzaldúa, Gabriela Ortiz, and Frida Kahlo converge with transporting light and projections by Abigail Hoke-Brady and pieces by one of DC’s most acclaimed artists, Marta Pérez García. Audiences are invited to travel or be still through this experience of mysticism—a transformative practice of radical love that seeks to challenge power. LAS MÍSTICAS DE MÉXICO builds on Anna Deeny Morales’s new rendering of a medieval music drama, with renowned musician and scholar, Tina Chancey, of HESPERUS, and additional music by composer Allison Sniffen. With music direction from Tina Chancey and directed by Maribeth Diggle and Timothy Nelson, IN Series vocalists are joined by the Children's Chorus of Washington, in presentation transformed by and transforming the iconic spaces of DC's Dupont Underground and Mexican Cultural Institute, and Baltimore Emmanuel Great Hall.
LAS MÍSTICAS DE MÉXICO is produced in collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Institute to celebrate 100 years of bilateral relations between our two countries.

The performance runs for approximately one hour. The audience will experience the work by moving freely through the space, weaving between the performers and the art. Chairs will be available for those with mobility issues. Audience size will be strictly limited to 40 patrons per performance.
